My Fitness Journey: Learning Through the Early Days

It’s been a little while since I shared my Day One of a New Beginning, and I wanted to be honest about how this new chapter is unfolding. The truth? Progress hasn’t been as fast as I imagined. And that’s okay.

At 62, I’m learning that this journey isn’t about dramatic overnight results—it’s about listening to my body, experimenting, and finding what truly works for me.

The Intermittent Fasting Experiment

One of the biggest changes I’ve made recently is trying intermittent fasting (IF). My goal was to give my body a chance to reset, improve digestion, and maybe even kickstart autophagy (the body’s way of cleaning out damaged cells).

I started with an 18/6 window, sometimes pushing it longer, and while I’ve seen some small wins—like feeling lighter and less bloated—I’ve also had to face some challenges. Some days I’ve felt low energy, and other days I’ve struggled to balance the fasting rhythm with my workouts.

This experience has reminded me that health isn’t about perfection. It’s about adapting, learning, and adjusting along the way.

What I’ve Learned So Far

  • Small progress is still progress. Even if the scale hasn’t shifted much, I’m building consistency and resilience.

  • Fasting isn’t one-size-fits-all. I’ve noticed that a shorter window (like 14/10) sometimes works better for me, especially when my energy dips.

  • Nourishment matters. Breaking my fast with nutrient-rich smoothies—packed with berries, ginger, kiwi, probiotics, and spinach—helps my body recharge and my immune system feel supported.

  • Mindset is everything. Instead of beating myself up for “slow” results, I remind myself this is a lifelong journey, not a quick sprint.

Looking Ahead

The coming weeks will be about finding balance—tuning into my body’s signals and adjusting my fasting windows so I can sustain energy, support my workouts, and still enjoy life.

I may not have dramatic “before and after” photos yet, but I do have something even more valuable: renewed determination. Every day I show up, even imperfectly, I’m proving to myself that I’m worth the effort.

A Message for You

If you’ve ever felt frustrated by slow progress, know that you’re not alone. Real change often happens quietly, in the little choices we make daily. Whether it’s fasting, working out, or simply choosing a nourishing meal, every step counts.

So here’s my promise: I’ll keep showing up, sharing honestly, and celebrating the small victories along the way. Because this isn’t just about a fitness journey—it’s about building a healthier, stronger, more confident version of me, one day at a time.
